This is a marvelous vintage Zuni inlaid sun face silver bracelet. This impeccable bracelet contains a triple inlaid sun face design that consists of mother of pearl, Sleeping Beauty turquoise, coral and onyx. The center large kachina sun face measures around 1-1/2" X 1-1/8". Surrounding the inlay workmanship are wonderful silver shells and ropes. This bracelet contains a fascinating thick and sturdy double silver shank cuff that is rounded for a more comfortable fit. I absolutely love the workmanship and detailing on this bracelet. The width of the bracelet measures around 1". Signed by Zuni artist, AL. Sterling silver. Cir. 1970's+. The inside end to end measures around 5-1/4" with an additional 1" gap. Sturdy 38 grams. A Zuni bracelet with an inlaid Kachina Sun face design is a beautiful piece of jewelry that combines the artistic traditions of the Zuni people with the symbolic imagery of the Kachina spirits and the sun. The Zuni tribe is known for its exceptional lapidary work, particularly in creating intricate stone inlay designs. In the case of a Zuni bracelet with a Kachina Sun face, the bracelet would typically feature a silver cuff with a central medallion or plaque. The medallion would be adorned with a detailed, multicolored inlay depicting a Kachina Sun face. The Kachina spirits are an integral part of Zuni culture and are believed to be powerful intermediaries between the physical and spiritual realms. These spirits play a vital role in Zuni religious ceremonies and are often depicted in various art forms, including jewelry. The Kachina Sun face represents the life-giving power of the sun and its significance in Zuni spirituality. The inlay technique involves carefully cutting and fitting different stones, such as turquoise, coral, jet, shell, and mother-of-pearl, into the silver setting. The stones are precisely shaped and arranged to create a mosaic-like pattern that forms the Kachina Sun face design. The stones are then set in place using a combination of adhesive and the metalwork of the bracelet. Zuni inlay jewelry is highly valued for its craftsmanship, cultural significance, and aesthetic appeal. Each piece is a unique work of art, reflecting the skill and creativity of the Zuni artisans who create them. A Zuni bracelet with an inlaid Kachina Sun face can be a meaningful and visually striking accessory that celebrates Zuni culture and traditions.
