This is a marvelous vintage Navajo turquoise slab silver cone necklace. This outstanding necklace contains a mind blowing plethora of hand cut large chunky Sleeping Beauty turquoise nuggets that graduate in size towards the bottom. The Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Mine is a famous mine located in Globe, Arizona, USA, that is known for producing high-quality turquoise. The mine is named after the nearby Sleeping Beauty Mountain, which is said to resemble a sleeping woman lying on her back. The Sleeping Beauty mine has been in operation since the early 20th century and has produced some of the most sought-after turquoise in the world. The turquoise from this mine is known for its bright blue color and lack of matrix, which makes it highly desirable for use in jewelry. In recent years, the Sleeping Beauty mine has closed, and there is no longer any turquoise being mined from the site. The largest turquoise nugget measures a whopping 1-1/4" X 3/4". Resting throughout the nuggets are amazing hand cut tan to brown colored shell heishi. Resting at the ends are superior silver cones with accenting silver beads.
