This is a monumental vintage Hopi silver bolo tie of Smithsonian quality handmade by none other than the famous Preston Monongye! Preston was born in 1927 and quickly became one of the most famous names in Native American jewelry. All serious collectors need to have at least one of his pieces in their collection. Preston taught silversmithing at the Pheonix Indian Center in the 1970's. This piece contains one of his earliest and most rare hallmarks. The bolo is a hand wrought rounded silver bolo with a completely hand carved and hand chisled silver bear. Preston even made the two silver pins that rest at the bottom of the tie which includes two amazing triangular heads. The superlative silver bolo measures around 2-3/4" in diameter and the total length of the impressive tie measures around 42". Signed by Hopi artist, Preston Monongye. Sterling silver. Cir. 1950's+.
