Up for sale is this superior vintage Navajo necklace. What an exceptional necklace! This necklace is five lengthy strands of intense beauty! Each of the five strands is made up of mega amounts of black Jet pods with the contrasting bright blue turquoise discs! The artist also added the one 3/8" Coral stone on the one strand! Each strand ends with dark heishi that then gather with the thick braided cord at the back, which also allows for some length adjustability! This fascinating necklace completes an amazing look! Jet is a type of lignite, a precursor to coal, and is considered a black gemstone. It is not a mineral but rather a product of high-pressure decomposition of wood from millions of years ago. Jet has been used for centuries in various forms of jewelry and ornamentation due to its deep black color and relative ease of carving. The use of jet in Native American jewelry is part of a long tradition of incorporating materials found in the local environment into artistic and cultural expressions. Jet, being relatively common in certain regions, became a valuable resource for Native American artists. The length of the necklace measures around 34". Sturdy 90 grams.
