Magnificent Vintage Native American Zuni Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Sterling Silver Bowguard

Here we have an astounding vintage Zuni silver bowguard. This is quite the unique bowguard! The large, striking 3" x 2" thunderbird design at the heart of the bowguard is created of inlay stones of Sleeping Beauty turquoise, coral, mother of pearl and jet and seemingly comes alive as it really pops against the black leather bowguard! This artist really took this piece to the next level when they added the 4 fabulous additional large inlay feather stations that accent the sides! The bowguard has black leather ties and measures about 11" around! Sleeping Beauty turquoise is a unique, beautiful light to medium blue color. It usually has few spider webbing matrix lines. For these reasons it is highly prized and has a special place in the world of turquoise. This turquoise is collected from the Sleeping Beauty mine, which is near the town of Globe in Arizona. To get this famous stone, the Globe area is often visited by people dealing in turquoise and the public. Like other mines it will run out in time, and the value of this turquoise will continue to go up. As with other types of turquoise, being unique often brings added fame. Even among the most highly cherished types of turquoise however, Sleeping Beauty turquoise holds a special place.
