The Carico Lake Turquoise Mine is a well-known turquoise mine located in Lander County, Nevada, United States. It is named after the nearby Carico Lake, which is situated in the remote high desert area of central Nevada. The mine has been a source of high-quality turquoise for many years. Carico Lake turquoise is highly regarded for its unique color and characteristics. It is known for its bright, vivid blue and green hues, often with a spiderweb matrix pattern. The turquoise from this mine is sought after by jewelry makers and collectors around the world. The mine itself is a small-scale operation, and turquoise is extracted through both open-pit and underground mining methods. The turquoise veins are found in hard rock deposits, and the miners use heavy machinery to extract the stone. Once mined, the turquoise is then cut, shaped, and polished for use in various jewelry pieces. Carico Lake turquoise is considered one of the premier types of turquoise in the United States. Its distinctive color and matrix patterns make it highly desirable for use in Native American jewelry, as well as contemporary and designer pieces. The mine has become a significant source of income for the local community and has contributed to the turquoise industry in Nevada.
