It is a significant and highly sought-after item in Native American jewelry. The squash blossom necklace typically features a central pendant called the "naja," which is crescent-shaped and represents a Navajo or Spanish influence. The naja pendant is often adorned with gemstones or turquoise, a highly valued stone in Native American culture. From the bottom of the naja pendant, several silver "squash blossoms" or "blossom beads" are suspended, resembling the blossoms of a squash or pomegranate flower. These blossom beads are handcrafted from silver and have a distinctive flared shape. They may be plain or decorated with intricate stamp work or repoussé designs, showcasing the silversmith's skill and artistry. The necklace itself is usually made of silver beads, often handmade and strung on a chain or a leather cord. Navajo squash blossom necklaces have deep cultural and symbolic significance to the Navajo people. The squash blossom is considered a symbol of abundance, fertility, and prosperity.
