The Morenci and Old Kingman turquoise mines are two of the most iconic sources of American turquoise, each known for producing distinctive and highly prized stones. The Morenci mine, located in southeastern Arizona, is famous for its deep blue turquoise often flecked with iron pyrite, giving it a sparkling, metallic matrix that sets it apart. Once part of a large copper mining operation, Morenci turquoise is now considered rare and collectible, as the mine has long since ceased turquoise production. The Old Kingman mine, situated in northwestern Arizona, is one of the oldest and most productive turquoise mines in the U.S., known for its bright sky-blue stones with a classic black or brown spiderweb matrix. Turquoise from the original Old Kingman deposit is especially sought after due to its exceptional quality and vibrant color.
