Thomas Singer was a legendary Navajo jewelry artist renowned for his innovative designs and profound influence on Native American jewelry. Born in 1940 in Winslow, Arizona, Singer pioneered the use of silver overlay techniques, often incorporating traditional Navajo symbols and storytelling into his work. He became especially well-known for his use of "chip inlay," a method that involved setting crushed turquoise, coral, and other stones into intricate silver designs. His jewelry often featured symbolic motifs such as arrows, feathers, and sunfaces, reflecting Navajo spiritual beliefs and cultural identity. Throughout his career, Thomas Singer's work remained rooted in tradition while also evolving with contemporary styles, earning him recognition and respect across the art world. Even after his passing in 2014, his legacy continues through the work of his family, especially his wife Rose Singer, who carries on his artistic vision and craftsmanship.
