This is a museum quality vintage Navajo very large chunky turquoise silver squash blossom necklace. This phenomenal necklace contains a fascinating very large bottom turquoise silver naja pendant that measures a whopping 3-1/2" X 4". Located on this necklace are 18 amazing large graduating green to brown colored Royston turquoise stones with the largest stone measuring a whopping 7/8" X 3/4". I absolutely love how the stones graduate in size. Surrounding each beautiful stone are fascinating silver works that consist of thick ropes and wave patterns portraying the stones around the naja and squash pendants to be flower patterns. The naja consists of a wonderful thick and sturdy double silver shank. Running throughout the majority of the necklace are outstanding handmade large round silver beads with a traditional silver clasp. Sterling silver. Cir. Mid century . The length of the necklace measures around 32". Sturdy 278 grams. The Navajo squash blossom necklace is a traditional piece of jewelry created by the Navajo people, who are Native American indigenous to the southwestern United States. It is a prominent and highly recognizable symbol of Navajo culture and craftsmanship. The squash blossom necklace typically consists of a string of silver beads or stones, such as turquoise, strung together with crescent-shaped "squash blossoms" made of silver. Each squash blossom resembles a flower and is often adorned with intricate silverwork, stamping, and other decorative elements. The necklace derives its name from the crescent-shaped squash blossoms, which are said to represent fertility and abundance in Navajo culture. The design is believed to have been influenced by Spanish Moorish horseshoe motifs brought to the region by Spanish colonizers. Over time, the Navajo incorporated their own artistic style and symbolism, resulting in the distinctive squash blossom necklace. Turquoise is a popular stone used in Navajo squash blossom necklaces and is highly valued for its beauty and cultural significance. It is believed to possess protective and healing properties in Navajo culture. The silver beads and other elements in the necklace also showcase the skilled craftsmanship and metalworking techniques of Navajo silversmiths. Navajo squash blossom necklaces are not only considered important cultural symbols but also highly sought-after pieces of jewelry. They are often worn on special occasions and are treasured heirlooms passed down through generations. Today, they continue to be crafted by Navajo artisans and are available in various styles, sizes, and materials to suit individual preferences.
