About Gene Natan

Gene Natan is a 58-year-old Native American silversmith who learned the trade from his mother, continuing the strong tradition of maternal instruction found throughout Navajo jewelry-making families. Outside of his silverwork, Gene works as an elk guide in Southern New Mexico and is the father of four children, balancing a life connected to the outdoors with his craft as a jeweler.

Style & Background

Gene's dual life as both a silversmith and a Southern New Mexico elk guide reflects a broader pattern among Native American artisans, many of whom balance jewelry-making with other trades and outdoor work rooted in their communities and landscapes.
